Description

Another project that I always wanted to try, combining images from different sources and see if it improves. I took 5 minute exposures in Hα with my 6 inch achromat and a flattener so that the full 1200mm focal length came into the game. In general Orion is only visible from my backyard when it is still lower in the sky, and in the most light polluted direction as well. I combined those with my latest image with the 4" APO, and created a crop of the Horsehead to see how much detail I can achieve. Not that I am super happy with it, for the first try though I guess it is ok.

The Horsehead Nebula (Barnard 33) is a dark nebula in Orion. The Horsehead is back lit by the emission nebula IC 434, which glows due to ionization from the nearby hot blue star Sigma Orionis.

Description: Finally processed the Hß images that I took before I targeted Thor's Helmet. This final image is a composition of Hα amd Hß only. Green channel is 50% of each. To smoothen the image I added a composition of Hα-Hß-Hß with 50%.
